I just killed ANOTHER cucumber. I would post a picture of the victim but it is just too gory! I love them (especially the little midget or pickling cucumbers). I will buy a four pack of these tiny things and inevitably I will have to throw one or more away before I can eat them.
Years ago I found some amazing storage containers at TJ Maxx. Now Amazon has them. They are called Kinetic 49131 containers. These containers will even keep berries for weeks with no mold if you don’t wash the berries until you are ready to use them.
So, my thinking has been, if it will keep fragile berries for weeks, it should do the same with cucumbers…right? Well, no. They still rot!
Today I started to make a salad and my last cucumber in the container was covered with mold and was mushy. All three of the containers with berries bought long before the cucumbers were full of beautiful looking fruit. What the heck???
So I stopped at the grocery store today after running some errands and bought another four-pack of cucumbers. When I got them home, I took off the plastic covering and noticed they were a little damp so I dried them off.
I was just getting ready to put them in one of my Kinetic containers when it suddenly occurred to me that maybe they would keep better at room temperature. I Goggled it and sure enough, cucumbers are supposed to be stored at room temperature! I’ll soon be 71 and I’ve never heard of such a thing!
So I’m turning my back on my cucumber-murdering past and storing them in with some of my veggies and other compatible fruits on the counter in my kitchen.
I may have just saved a fortune. Not really, but I may at least get to eat all four of the cucumbers this time. Life is good.
Love and Hugs,
