With our wedding ceremony happening so fast, when we decided to come to Frankenmuth, we didn’t call ahead for reservations thinking it was off season. We came rolling in about 11 p.m. and they had a room for that night (Thursday) but nothing for Friday and Saturday because there is a huge Country Fest going on this weekend.
We explained our situation to the two sweet night clerks…telling them about our sudden marriage with no planning and that we were on our honeymoon. I asked if they would call us if they had a cancellation. The young lady informed us that there was pretty much no chance of a cancellation as they have a 48 hour cancellation requirement and that the time had passed for cancellation without paying in full for the room. We were disappointed and I have to admit I was kind of shocked because everything had been falling into place like it was meant to be.
The female night clerk apologized that the only room they had was an ADA room and that there were bars in the bathroom. Art told her that was fine as we were on our honeymoon and 70 years old and that those bars might come in handy, (Sometimes I can’t believe the things coming out of his mouth.) They thought that was pretty funny….I slinked away
When they asked for Art’s debit card, he did his usual schtick about how he hoped it would go through, that he had just found the card in the parking lot! I love cutting up and kidding around, but Art has a whole stage act when someone starts interacting with him. I’m trying to train myself to be patient as this man is always on stage. I think we are just going to be known as one of those crazy old couples. But hey, that’s okay.
We decided to make reservations elsewhere for Friday and Saturday and come back on Sunday and Monday, then Tuesday we have a reservation at the Grand Hotel.
We checked out about 11:30 this morning and went to McDonald’s in hopes that a fountain Coke might relieve some of Art’s tummy issues. As we set there a call came through on my phone. I looked down, didn’t recognize the number and rejected the call. Just as it disappeared from my phone screen, I saw “Frankenmuth, MI”. Yikes!
I called the number back thinking it might be our substitute hotel calling to say our online booking had a problem. But no, it was the Bavarian Inn!!! The sweet desk clerk had left a note that if there were any cancellations to save the room for us!!!! This WAS meant to be!!! We have all four nights at the Bavarian Inn going forward and that will take us until Tuesday when we go to the Grand Hotel.
Art said he felt well enough to walk around a bit so we went to Bronner’s Christmas Store and enjoyed the beautiful displays for a bit until we were both feeling exhausted. There was so much to see it was unbelievable. We’ve only seen a tiny bit of the store. We’ll do Bronner’s again when Art is feeling better.
Tonight we’re relaxing, praying for better health for him and thankful that everything has fallen into place, and that we’ll spend the next four days enjoying this beautiful place.
The adventure continues.
